Natural Burial Ground’s Annual Open Day

Saturday 23 May 2026, 10 am – 4 pm sees the Burial Ground’s Annual Open Day, an great opportunity to explore what is on offer at Sun Rising.  You can meet staff and trustees, talk through ideas and requirements, and take a tour of the natural burial ground and/or nature reserve with one of their team or by yourselves.

There’ll be refreshments all day, in aid of The Friends of Sun Rising.  They will have a nature table for those who would like to know more about the nature reserve and information about their gorgeous wildflowers too.   Their local willow coffin maker, Caz from Wild Heart Coffins, will be lending us a coffin, and they will have a beautifully elegant and simple card coffin too.  There’ll also be English flowers from Tysoe village florist, Hope and Glory.

  • Parish Council – wildflower management

    Parish Council – wildflower management

Tysoe Parish Council is increasing the number of areas in the village to be managed for a richer variety of wildflowers and wildlife.

Four new areas have been marked out with temporary posts.  For the rest of this season, these will not be mown, to see what plants naturally come up.  In the Autumn, these will then be sown with Yellow Rattle, which suppresses some of the grass and allows more room for other wildflower species to thrive.

    The new areas are:

    • At the entrance to Poolgate – the ditch at the back is already full of a wide variety of species.  This will be extended forward.  The front will still be mown for highways visibility, and a tree and some crocuses will be planted this Autumn.  The Dead Hedge already in the private land behind adds to the habitat types here.
    • Around the Mulberry Tree on the entrance to Old Tree Lane – the posts and wire around the Mulberry Tree are to be removed as the tree is well-established now.  The branches of the tree naturally swoop down to the ground, so the wildflowers will be around the spreading branches.
    • At the corner of Badger’s Lane – violets seem to grow well here already, but what else will?
    • A strip along the back of the Football Field – we ask dog owners to kindly refrain from letting their dogs poo in any of the longer grass around the edges of the football and recreation fields, as children regularly play here.

Along with the existing Wildflower Areas, these will make for a more Wildlife Friendly alternative to taking part in ‘No Mow May’.

For our full ‘Wildlife Friendly Mowing Strategy’, please see here.

  • May Film Club at the Village Hall

May Film Club at the Village Hall

On the 27th May Tysoe Village Hall will screen a charming and captivating true story of a stubborn and amusingly self-centered Australian man who decides to walk the 800 kilometer-long Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route through Spain. He doesn’t know why he’s doing it, but one step at a time it will change him and his outlook on life forever. Based on Bill Bennett’s best selling memoir of the same name, The Way, My Way has been described by Camino elder statesman Johnnie Walker as the most authentic film ever made about the Camino.
