Tysoe Wildlife comprises a group of enthusiastic and dedicated Tysoe residents who seek to bring wildlife lovers together to support nature and the environment.
Our aim
Our aim is to protect and enhance the natural environment within the parish, ensuring that nature can thrive and be enjoyed by all. We focus on safeguarding habitats and promoting greater biodiversity in both plant and animal life.
Key Projects
This year we have identified four key projects for Tysoe Wildlife volunteers to focus. Two of them are to help Red List species – Hedgehogs and Swifts; Bats and dark skies are also on our radar; lastly Hedgerows as these are essential for providing corridors of connectivity for wildlife as well as food and shelter.
We are encouraging Tysoe residents to adopt Wildlife Friendly practices so that everyone helps wildlife in their own gardens. When added together our gardens represent a significant. All of these initiatives are to help bring about nature’s recovery in our parish.
Activities
Through our various projects we hope to make more space for nature and encourage more people to get involved in supporting our local wildlife. We have prepared a Wildlife Plan for the Year which includes talks, walks, events and workshops.
Dedicated wildlife areas
With support from Tysoe Parish Council and St Mary’s Church, Tysoe Wildlife has created several dedicated wildlife areas across the parish. These include wildflower verges, wildflower margins in the playing fields, as well as wildflower planting, a wildlife hedge and dead hedge, and bird boxes in the churchyard.
Connecting with other nature interests
We are working closely with the Sun Rising Natural Burial Ground and Nature Reserve, and the Community Orchard to raise awareness and support for wildlife in the parish. We are fortunate to have Radway Meadows, a Warwickshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve falls within the parish boundary. In addition, several local landowners are actively managing land with biodiversity in mind.
Links and support
So far our efforts have also been supported by funding and partnerships with organisations such as the Cotswolds National Landscape, Severn Trent (via Warwickshire Wildlife Trust), and CPRE.
